COMMEMORATIONS
Annual Kristallnacht Commemoration
Each year, the Center marks the anniversary of Kristallnacht. This violent event took place in Germany in 1938 and signaled the impending destruction of the Jewish people that would be known as the Holocaust. This year, the program will be The Boys of Buchenwald Reunite! on Tuesday, November 9, 9:30-11:30. Child survivors of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp will reunite to view a movie of their story and share their experience and perspective in a discussion with the audience. These boys survived the Holocaust with no family, no home, and no future. But what they did have was each other. Please join us when these men detail their lives and their unique relationship. This program is appropriate for middle school and high school students.

TESTIMONIAL DINNER
Every year, the center honors prominent individuals from the community for their distinguished accomplishments. Past honorees have included Leonard S. Coleman, Jr., in 2002 and Robert A. Honecker, Jr., in 2003.
This year’s testimonial dinner and journal tribute will honor the Rev. Dr. Donald D. Warner, renowned educator and human rights advocate. The Rev. Dr. Warner served as superintendent of Red Bank Regional High School for 24 years, and was instrumental in developing its reputation as an exemplary educational institution. The Rev. Dr. Warner has served on boards of state and local agencies that addressed issues relating to race relations. We are proud to be associated with such a distinguished citizen humanist.
The keynote speaker at this year’s testimonial dinner will be Maud Dahme, the former President of the NJ State Board of Education, and herself a hidden child of the Holocaust. She and her sister were saved by Righteous Gentiles, a Dutch family who sheltered the girls as their own during the war.
The dinner will be held on Thursday evening, November 11, 2004 beginning at 6 p.m. Information about ads for the journal or tickets for the event will be available from the Center. Look for mailings for the journal information at the beginning of September and invitations later in the month. We hope that you will be able to join us for this special event. |
