INSTRUCTIONS FOR LUNA KAUFMAN ART CONTEST
Eligibility: Participation in this art contest is open to students in grades 5 – College.
Theme: Any original artwork interpreting aspects of Holocaust, genocide or human rights studies.
Date: Works must be submitted by March 25, 2010. A juried exhibit of participants' work will be displayed during the week of the colloquium, May 5-12, 2010.
Categories: Student may submit work in any of the following media:
- PAINTINGS: oil, acrylics, watercolors, temperas, casein
- DRAWINGS: pencil, pen and ink and wash, craypas, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal or pastels (These must be fixed or covered with acetate)
- PRINTS: linoleum cuts, woodcuts, etchings, lithographs, serigraphs, monotypes, or collotypes
- MIXED MEDIA AND COLLAGE SCULPTURES: wood, metal, plaster, fired ceramic, clay, plastic, stone
Size: Two-dimensional work may not be larger than 36 inches including the matte for frame. All work must be simply framed or matted ready for hanging.Three-dimensional work may not be larger than 36 inches in any one direction and may not exceed 50 pounds in weight.
Delivery of Work: Fully completed applications and a release form (see attached) must accompany each entry. We must have a reliable email address and telephone number on each entry. All work must be delivered to the Holocaust, Genocide & Human Rights Education Center (HGHREC) at Brookdale Community College by March 25, 2010. Please call to arrange delivery time.
Pick-up of Work: HGHREC is happy to receive your work as a donation to its permanent art collection. If you are not donating the work, arrangements must be made to pick the work by May 21, 2010.
Prizes: Artwork will be judged according to grade level groups:
Group I: Grades 5 and 6 Group III: Grades 9 and 10 Group V: College
Group II: Grades 7 and 8 Group IV: Grades 11 and 12
Awards of $50 United States Savings Bonds will be awarded in each art category. Following notification of winning status, students must provide their Social Security number to obtain the award of a US Savings Bond. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation in the contest.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: For students interested in the Art Contest, HGHREC offers Art Workshops both on the Brookdale Community College Campus and at your school.
